Prof. Isa Odidi, the first pharmaceutical scientist and builds world class pharmaceuticals manufacturing plant in China, the first by a Nigerian and African.


This was disclosed in a tweet on Sunday, January 21,by Nigeria's former vice president, Atiku Abubakar who congratulated the distinguished innovator on his great achievement.

The celebrated scientist's foremost passion is bridging the worlds of design, science, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship, with a view to maximising the outcome for economic growth.

Odidi with his wife Amina co-founded Intellipharmaceutics International Inc, a pharmaceutical company, in 1988 pioneering an innovative drug delivery system. It specialises in the research, development and manufacture of novel or generic controlled release and targeted release oral solid dosage drugs. Odidi received his B.Sc. degree in Pharmacy from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and his M.Sc. in Pharmaceutical Technology and his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics from the University of London.

He is also a graduate of the Western Executive Management Program and obtained his MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. Nigerian-born Isa Odidi who is now based in Canada has gained several patents for his inventions, the highest number of patents held by any African worldwide, which have been cited in numerous scientific journals, medical papers and textbooks.
 He continues to develop the technology and products that have a tremendous impact on Africa and millions of sick people around the world in chronic disease areas including hypertension, diabetes, depression and schizophrenia. Nigerian-born Isa an his wife have changed the face of the pharmaceutical industry.


According to an earlier report by NAIJ.com , the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) says it has successfully researched and developed six traditional herbal products for the treatment of Ebola, Malaria and other diseases .Professor Karniyus Gamaniel, thee NIPRD director general, said this while presenting the score card of his eight year tenure (2009 to 2017) in Abuja on Friday, January 19. The programme, organised by NIPRD, aimed to present the products researched and developed by the institute and present staff service awards to deserving worker, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
