Things In Your Spice Cupboard That Will Make You live Healthier.

Spice have long been used to not only season dishes but for their health benefits too. There is a lot of ongoing research
into spices and the benefits they can have on the human body, including in the fields of cancer and Alzheimer’s prevention. Don’t

you love it when you don’t have to go out of your way to be healthy? These ingredients are all commonplace in any spice cupboard, worth their salt (sorry) and can be added to a multitude of dishes:

1 Ginger
People have been using ginger medicinally for thousands for years, mainly for nausea and pain-related reasons. Drinking ginger tea or chewing on raw ginger is a popular alternative home remedy for nausea caused by cancer treatment, pregnancy or motion sickness. Increasing your ginger intake has also been shown to reduce period pain, improve digestion, and help with the flu by making your body sweat it out.
Sneak It Into Your Diet Make your own ginger tea by cutting up ginger and adding boiling water (and honey to taste). Add ginger to stir-fries, fresh juices, fish recipes and curries.

2 Cinnamon
Who knew tree bark could be so delicious and healthy? Cinnamon is full of anti-oxidants which have anti-inflammatory effects, and has anti-diabetic benefits as it helps to lower your body’s blood sugar levels. There are also multiple studies showing cinnamon having the potential to prevent Alzheimer’s, cancer and even HIV. Get sprinkling! Add It Into Your Diet You can sprinkle cinnamon onto pretty much anything, including oats, smoothies, roast butternut and chicken.

3 Rosemary
Here’s another ingredient in your spice cupboard that has anti-inflammatory properties. Adding rosemary to your meat dishes has been shown to prevent cancer-causing compounds (that can be produced when you grill, fry or boil meat) to form. But besides your body’s health rosemary is also beneficial to your mind.
The scent of rosemary can improve memory and cognition so it’s worth having a bottle of rosemary oil on hand at your desk. Sneak It Into Your Diet Rosemary works best with roast potatoes and chicken.

4 Turmeric
This beautiful yellow spice, often used in curries, has been proven to have a long list of health benefits, including having anti-inflammatory properties and lowering your risk of heart disease. Also, when used as a face mask turmeric gives you an amazing glow.

Turmeric Face Mask:
Mix a bit of turmeric with equal parts honey, apple cider vinegar and yoghurt
Apply to your face and leave for 20 minutes.

PS: Turmeric stains so you might want to get a dark-coloured face cloth especially.

5 Chilli
Chillis contain capsaicin which can increase your metabolism a.k.a. your body’s ability to burn calories. Not only can chillis help to burn calories, eating a spicy meal has been shown to make you feel less hungry and eat less. Chilli is also high in vitamin C (seven times more than an orange!), and can greatly improve your digestive system if you’re feeling less than regular. If you’re someone who just can’t do chilli start small and work your way up. You really do develop a taste for it. Sneak It Into Your Diet Add chilli to sauces, dips, beans, omelettes, as a pizza topping or to a chocolate dessert for a little kick.
