Jon Flanagan in court this morning
25-year-old Liverpool FC defender, Jon Flanagan, has been sentenced to 40 hours of unpaid work and a 1-year community order over a 'prolonged' late-night street
attack when he repeatedly beat and kicked his girlfriend.
According to Dailymail UK, at Liverpool Magistrates' Court this morning, the football star who pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to assault by beating of Rachael Wall, was handed a 15-week community order and asked to complete 40 hours of unpaid work.
Flanagan from Liverpool, who earns £35,000 a week, and was pictured wearing a black suit, white shirt and black tie, looked nervous as he was sentenced. He was also ordered to pay £85 court costs and £85 victim surcharge by Judge Wendy Lloyd.
Judge Wendy Lloyd today told him: 'You are a relatively young man with no previous convictions and it is therefore sad that you have come before the court today due to your behaviour.
'This is an unpleasant episode... as we have discussed at the previous hearing this was not just a single act in that few minutes it was a matter of this lady going to the floor twice and you used your foot on her on one occasion.
'I find this was a category two offence, this lady does have injuries but of course she did not attribute those injuries to you.
'You claim to have no memory of this incident which does suggest you were very drunk indeed.'
Judge Lloyd said she was told that the pair are still in a relationship and is told Flanagan recognised 'the breach of trust.'
The court were played CCTV footage of the attack on mum-of-two Ms Wall by Flanagan, which took place on Duke Street in Liverpool city centre at around 3:20am on December 22.
It was same day Liverpool played out a thrilling 3-3 draw against Arsenal at The Emirates but the defender wasn't part of the travelling squad for the game.
