Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, John Boyega to shoot Hollywood standard movies in Lagos

The Lagos State government through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, has confirmed that it will be giving concession to two Hollywood movies to be shot in Lagos State later this year.

One of the movies is the movie adaption of the novel, “Americanah” by Nigeria’s multiple-award-winning novelist, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The other is the movie project of
Nigerian-British actor, John Boyega.

The Honourable Commissioner of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr Steve Ayorinde, who made the disclosure to members of the press at the Alausa secretariat expounded on the tourism cum economic potentials of the movie projects.

“The last time Boyega came to Nigeria, he did announce that he was going to shoot a film estimated between 25 and 30million US dollars.

“When you convert this money to naira, that is about N9 billion. If you bring that to an economy that will impact on actors, producers, technicians, hotels, movie extras, you will see that it is substantial.
“Also, another film that will be shot in Lagos this year is the movie adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel, Americanah.

“And without them announcing, we know that the budget of that film will be bigger because they will be bringing major Hollywood framework to shoot the movie. It is a good time for Lagos State as far as film production is concerned. And we are happy that these productions are coming to Lagos,”

He said.

Few weeks ago, Hollywood’s star and Kenyan-Mexican actress, Lupita Nyong’o, who is reportedly the lead actor of Americanah, visited Lagos on a location tour and it is believed that the audition process will soon commence.
